How to Use Perplexity to Notion: A Step-by-Step Guide
Published on:
Welcome! If you've discovered the Perplexity to Notion extension and are excited to streamline how you save AI insights, you're in the right place. This guide will walk you through everything from installation to saving your first Perplexity conversation into Notion.
Step 1: Install the Extension
Getting started is simple. The Perplexity to Notion extension is available on the Chrome Web Store.
- Open your Google Chrome browser.
- Go to the Perplexity to Notion page on the Chrome Web Store.
- Click the "Add to Chrome" button.
- A pop-up will appear asking for permissions. Click "Add extension".
Once installed, you'll see a confirmation, and the extension icon (it looks like our logo!) might appear in your Chrome toolbar. If not, proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Pin the Extension (Recommended)
For easy access, we recommend pinning the extension to your Chrome toolbar:
- Click the "Extensions" icon (it usually looks like a puzzle piece) in the top-right corner of your Chrome browser.
- Find "Perplexity to Notion" in the list of your extensions.
- Click the "Pin" icon (it looks like a thumbtack) next to it. The pin icon should turn blue.
Now, the Perplexity to Notion icon will always be visible in your toolbar for quick access.
Step 3: Navigate to Perplexity AI
Open a new tab and go to Perplexity AI. Start a conversation or open an existing one that you'd like to save to Notion.
Step 4: Open the Perplexity to Notion Extension
Once you have a Perplexity conversation open:
- Click the "Perplexity to Notion" icon in your Chrome toolbar.
- The extension popup will open.
Step 5: Connect to Notion (First-Time Setup)
If this is your first time using the extension, you'll need to connect it to your Notion workspace.
- In the extension popup, you'll see a "Connect to Notion" button. Click it.
- You'll be redirected to a Notion authorization page. Here, you need to grant the extension access to specific pages or databases in your Notion workspace.
- Choose the pages or databases you want the extension to be able to save to. We recommend selecting the parent page or database where you plan to store your Perplexity conversations. You can always adjust these permissions later in your Notion settings under "My connections".
- Click "Allow access".
Once authorized, you'll be redirected back, and the extension will be connected to your Notion account.
Important: The extension only has access to the pages you explicitly grant permission for. Your other Notion data remains private.
Step 6: Saving a Single Perplexity Conversation
With the extension open and connected to Notion, saving your current Perplexity conversation is straightforward:
- The extension will automatically detect the active Perplexity conversation.
- Choose Destination: You'll see an option to select the Notion Page or Database where you want to save the conversation. The extension will remember your last used destination.
- If you choose a Database, the conversation will be saved as a new entry in that database. The extension will try to map content to relevant properties if your database has fields like "Title", "URL", "Tags", etc.
- If you choose a Page, the conversation will be saved as a sub-page under the selected page.
- Customize Title (Optional): The extension will usually pre-fill a title based on the Perplexity thread. You can edit this title if needed.
- Click the "Save to Notion" button.
You'll see a confirmation message once the conversation is successfully saved. You can click the link in the confirmation to go directly to the newly created page in Notion.
Step 7: Batch Exporting Conversations (Pro Feature)
If you have multiple conversations in your Perplexity history that you want to save, the batch export feature is incredibly useful.
- Navigate to your Perplexity Library (where all your threads are listed).
- Open the Perplexity to Notion extension.
- Switch to the "Batch Export" tab within the extension.
- Select the conversations you wish to export. You might have options to "Select All" or pick individual threads.
- Choose your destination Notion Page or Database, similar to saving a single conversation.
- Click "Export Selected to Notion".
The extension will then process and save each selected conversation to your chosen Notion location.
Note: Batch export might be a premium feature. Check the extension's interface or website for the latest details on feature availability.
Step 8: Finding Your Saved Conversations in Notion
Your saved Perplexity conversations will appear in the Notion page or database you selected during the saving process. They will retain much of their original formatting, including questions, answers, and sources, making them easy to review and use.
